Some mileage may be reimbursable, but you must understand what the college's policy is in order to file for reimbursable mileage.
The form for mileage claims is on the Intranet under Other Documents. Gavilan uses the current federal rate for reimbursement (easily googled.)
Generally, faculty are expected to travel from home to Gavilan on their own. That is, if you go from your Morgan Hill home to the Gilroy campus and then go back to your Morgan Hill home, then you do not qualify for mileage reimbursement.
If, however, you travel from your home in Morgan Hill, for example, to teach at class at the Gilroy campus, and then go to Hollister to teach a class there, mileage could be paid from Gilroy to Hollister and then from Hollister back to the Gilroy campus (or equivalent in miles). You would pay your own mileage from the Gilroy campus back to your home in Morgan Hill in this example.
This example, then, would look like this:
One-Way Commute from Morgan Hill to Gilroy Gavilan: 15 Miles
Travel to Hollister Facility from Gavilan 16 Miles
Return trip from Hollister directly to home in Morgan Hill 26 miles
Employee Reimbursement:
Gilroy to Hollister 16 Miles
Hollister to Morgan Hill (less regular commute) 11 Miles
Total Mileage Reimbursed 27 Miles
However, if you were to drive from the Gilroy campus to Hollister and then back to the Gilroy campus for another class or a meeting, you would be eligible for 32 miles (16 miles X 2 = 32) since none of your normal commute would be covered.
If you have a non-class commitment off campus, such as a conference or meeting offsite, you can be pre-approved by your supervisor to file for and receive mileage.
Mileage is paid at the federal rate, and you must not use a district vehicle to claim mileage expenses.
