What types of annual scholarships does GCFA award?
One Transfer scholarship for a transfer-eligible student, one Career-Technical Scholarship for a student who has completed a certificate or degree, and one scholarship to a student who has completed at least 40 units in any field of study and has overcome significant adversity.
Each scholarship is for $300 as of 2011.
Who selects scholarship recipients?
The GCFA President appoints a selection committee of three to five faculty members prior to May 1 of each year. The GCFA Vice President, or other designee, chairs the committee and notifies the recipients. The committee establishes its own working procedures.
What are the selection criteria and who is eligible for selection?
- Contributions to the college through co- and extra-curricular activities.
- Financial need.
When will scholarship recipients be recognized?
Recognition of those selected shall be made at the graduation ceremonies.
How will GCFA get the awards to the recipients?
The scholarship amount shall be awarded to the recipient by the Gavilan College Financial Aid Office upon verification of full-time enrollment the next term of attendance (excluding Summer Session). The recipient shall have one full academic year following the award to make the scholarship claim.
What if no qualified students are chosen by the election committee?
The scholarship amount(s) shall revert to the GCFA treasury.
