What types of annual scholarships does GCFA award?
One Transfer Student Scholarship of $1,000.00 and one Technical Student Scholarship of $500.00. The two scholarship recipients are also awarded the Faculty Scholarship Cup as co-winners.
Who selects scholarship recipients?
The GCFA President appoints a selection committee of three to five faculty members prior to May 1 of each year. The GCFA Vice President, or other designee, chairs the committee and notifies the recipients. The committee establishes its own working procedures.
What are the selection criteria and who is eligible for selection?
- Contributions to the college through co- and extra-curricular activities.
- Financial need.
Transfer Student
- must have completed at least 45 units of transfer work.
- must have a minimum 3.5 GPA in the transfer work.
- must have completed at least 60% of the work at Gavilan College.
Technical Student
- must have completed at least 45 units of work in the technical field including the suggested curriculum for the first year.
- must have a minimum 3.5 GPA in the technical work.
- must have completed at least 60% of the work at Gavilan College.
- has plans to complete the remaining portion of the program at Gavilan College.
When will scholarship recipients be recognized?
Recognition of those selected shall be made at the graduation ceremonies.
How will GCFA get the awards to the recipients?
The scholarship amount shall be awarded to the recipient by the Gavilan College Financial Aid Office upon verification of full-time enrollment the next term of attendance (excluding Summer Session). The recipient shall have one full academic year following the award to make the scholarship claim.
What if no qualified students are chosen by the election committee or if a chosen student does not qualify through continued attendance?
The scholarship amount(s) shall revert to the GCFA treasury.
