Section 1:
Two annual scholarships shall be awarded
- Transfer Student Scholarship -- $1,000.00
- Technical, Student Scholarship -- $500.00
Section 2: Process and Chronology
- Selection Committee: A selection committee of at least three but no more than five (this number to include the chair) shall be appointed by the Association President prior to May 1 of each year. The Association President-Elect, or other designee, shall chair the committee, and shall. notify the recipients.
- The committee shall establish its own working procedures within the provisions of this article.
- Recognition of those selected shall be made at the graduation ceremonies.
- The scholarship amount shall be awarded to the recipient by the Gavilan College Financial Aid Office upon verification of full-time enrollment the next term of attendance (excluding Summer Session). The recipient shall have one full academic year following the award to make the scholarship claim.
Section 3: Criteria for Selection: To be applied in the following manner:
- Grade Point Average and level of curricular difficulty;
- Contributions to the college through co- and extra-curricular activities
- Financial need.
Section 4: Recipient Selection
- Transfer Student: To be eligible for consideration, a student:
- must have completed at least 45 units of transfer work;
- must have a minimum 3.5 GPA in the transfer work;
- must have completed at least 60% of the work at Gavilan College
- Technical Student: To be eligible for consideration, a student:
- must have completed at least 45 units of work in the technical field including the suggested curriculum for the first year;
- must have a minimum 3.5 GPA in the technical work;
- must have completed at least 60% of the work at Gavilan College;
- has plans to complete the remaining portion of the program at Gavilan College.
Section 5: Non-Awarding/Forfeiture of Scholarship(s):
If no qualified student(s) are chosen by the election Committee or if a chosen student does not qualify through continued attendance, the scholarship amount(s) shall revert to the GCFA treasury.
Section 6: Faculty Scholarship Cup
The two scholarship recipients shall automatically be awarded the Faculty Scholarship Cup as co-winners. |
